Zebee City Guide Series: Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina

City guide from Mersiha Kevelj-Panjeta on Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The real hidden gem of Europe.

TELL US YOUR FAVOURITE AREA / HIDDEN GEM...

My favorite city in Bosnia and Herzegovina is Mostar. Beautiful city with unique history, amazing nature and architecture. Mostar is situated on the Neretva river and is the fifth-largest city in the country. Mostar was named after the bridge keepers (mostari) who in the medieval times guarded the Stari Most(Old Bridge) over the Neretva. The Old Bridge built by the Ottomans in the 16th century, is one of Bosnia and Herzegovina's most visited landmarks, and is considered an exemplary piece of Islamic architecture in the Balkans. Mostar is like Sarajevo, place where east meets west since Mostar and many other cities where under Otomans and Austro-Hungarian rule.
